Wow this is just amazing. Drudge has the PSA from the George Allen camp regarding Jim Webb's explicit sex scenes in novels he's written. Warning! Explicit content.
On one hand this stinks of slimey politics. But Allen's position all along has been that Jim Webb does not respect women. And this goes right along with that argument. And there's really no denying what he wrote. Webb's reaction will be key as to how this affects the race.
And so far his response has been the amazing part. In radio interviews this morning he has said things like
Webb said the release of the excerpts was “a Karl Rove campaign tactic” and a “classic example of the way this campaign has worked. It’s smear after smear.”
He defended his fiction as “illuminative.”
“It’s not a sexual act,” Webb told Plotkin regarding the “Lost Soldiers” excerpt. “I actually saw this happen in a slum in Bangkok when I was there as a journalist.”
“The duty of a writer is to illuminate the surroundings,” he added.
Or telling the host to stop reading the excerpts because they were not appropriate for radio.

The long and short of it is that Allen wins. There's not way Webb can claim any integrity after this, especially this close to the actual election.
Things are actually looking up for the Republicans at this point. With the NJ decision motivating the Republican base and with the Democrats seeing nothing wrong with this kind of behavior (the writing of this book, not the acts themselves) things have started to turn around. Watch the next couple of days very closely.
