Financial Times - Industry caught in carbon ‘smokescreen’
Companies and individuals rushing to go green have been spending millions on “carbon credit” projects that yield few if any environmental benefits.
A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place.
Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and in some cases for clean-ups that they would have made anyway.
Carbon credits were supposed to be investments in industries and areas where the carbon footprint was below some arbitrary standard. Thus the hollywood "Lear Jet Liberals" can live guilt free because they are "offsetting" their carbon footprint.
And now it turns out that the whole system is a fraud.

■ Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.
■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little – or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.
■ Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.
■ A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.
■ Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.
Do you like that last one? It basically says "uh...well they don't work". But that really doesn't matter to liberals, results aren't the goal, making themselves feel warm and fuzzy (and superior) is really what it's all about.
As I have said before, Global Warming alarmism has never been about saving the planet. If it were Al Gore would be off protesting the burning of peat moss. No, Global Warming is liberals finally finding an excuse to force the adoption of socialist policies in this country.
Another reason GLobal Warming resonates so much in the liberal community is that it provides them with a system of morality. Most conservatives, check that normal Americans have either a Christian sense of morality. Or if not devout they will have a moral code that has been passed down to them from their parents and society.
Liberals on the other hand have spent many years rejecting (and encouraging young people to reject) both Christianity and their parents sense of morality. Global Warming enables libs to assign a moral value to justify their feelings and actions. Watch for it, it's happening everywhere, watch how long it takes a Global Warming discussion to go from scientific to moral. I can see it now, Sheryl Crow potty training her children and telling them not to waste toilet paper, after all "you don't want to increase your carbon footprint, do you?"

In short, the Carbon Offsets wear no clothes.
But right-minded people already knew this. If it looks too good to be true, it is too good to be true.
And right-minded people know that there is something suspect about the hard sell of act now, if we wait until there is proof it will be too late.
We would not buy a used car this way.
