Picking up Momentum

Fred Thompson is picking up some momentum in Iowa after a strong performance in the the last debate.

Thompson is spending the final two weeks of the campaign in Iowa traveling the state with his wife, Jeri.

He referred to the Republican debate last week in Iowa, where he drew praise for refusing to comply when asked for a show of hands on a question about global warming.

“I said, ‘Nope,’ and everybody pulled their hand down and looked around,” Thompson said. “I just said to my buddies up there, ‘How are you going to stand up to the leaders of Iran and North Korea if you can’t stand up to an overbearing moderator?'”

And then he picked up the endorsement of highly respected conservative Steve King!

In addition to King, Fred picked up the endorsement of some high level bloggers (in addition to this one of course *ahem*):

Polipundit:

Thompson is an appealing mix of insider and outsider. His down-to-earth realism, his wit, and his political experience will make him the best possible general election candidate for the GOP. His positions on the key issues are solid and well-expressed, and will unite the Republican coalition against the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency.

Stop The ACLU:

Fred Thompson, as he isn't shy to point out, is consistent. I agree with him on every issue I can think of. While his campaign hasn't been the most exciting, his record, consistent principles, straightforwardness, and likability win me over.

Pejman Yousefzadeh of Redstate.com:

Indeed, as a general matter, it should be noted--as many have said--that when it comes to policy discussions, Thompson is clearly intellectually and substantively prepared to wade into the deep end of the pool. Moreover, Thompson clearly enjoys serious and intense policy discussions and is a genuine wonk. Thompson intellectual approach to policy issues will lead to a more refined and successful decision-making process if he should be elected President.

These are some very serious endorsements. Fred is kicking off his bus tour and will be on the road from now until the primary in Iowa. Stay tuned for more updates.

And I will once again point you to Fred's writings at Townhall.com, all written before he entered the race. If you are curious about where Fred stands on issues and why he stands where he does then I encourage you to check them out.
