Deanmania

Howard Dean of "yeeeeeeeeeearrrgh" fame has become the new leader of the Democratic party. And as a republican I couldn't be happier! He is an extreme leftist as demonstrated by these quotes. An example:
"I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for..." -- Howard Dean

"I think a library trustee is pretty important," Dean said, during "an administration that likes book burning more than reading books." -- Howard Dean as quoted by USA Today

"The truth is the President of the United States used the same device that Slobodan Milosevic used in Serbia. When you appeal to homophobia, when you appeal to sexism, when you appeal to racism, that is extraordinarily damaging to the country." -- Howard Dean
This kind of hateful rhetoric does not go over well in the mainstream public. In fact a lot of people who have been lifelong democrats wouldn't ever say some of the things he says on a regular basis. It especially doesn't play well in the southern regions.....like Virginia. I recieved an email from a contact in the Republican party via VAGOP website. The important text is as follows:
STATEMENT OF RPV CHAIRMAN KATE OBENSHAIN GRIFFIN

—Regarding Racially Insensitive Remarks Made By Democrat
Party—

RICHMOND – The Chairman of the Democrat National Committee (DNC), Howard
Dean, said at a recent meeting of the Democrat Black Caucus, “You think
the Republicans could get this many people of color in a single room?
Only if they had the hotel staff in here.”

Today, Kate Obenshain Griffin, Chairman of the Republican Party of
Virginia, called on Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine to tell Virginians
whether he supports the racially insensitive remarks made by the DNC
Chairman, especially given the recent press reports of the $5 million
the DNC plans to provide the Kaine campaign:

“As the Democrat Party is overtaken by the national leftist liberal
establishment, their policies of anger and pessimism are becoming clear.
The intolerable remarks made by Howard Dean expose the fact that the
Democrat Party takes minorities for granted.

“I call on Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine to immediately denounce the
divisive remarks by the Chairman of his Party. The failure of Tim Kaine
to condemn Howard Dean’s remarks can only be interpreted by all
Virginians as an explicit endorsement by the Democrat Party of Virginia
of such discriminatory beliefs.”

"During a meeting with The Democratic Black Caucus, Dean ... questioned
Republicans' ability to rally support from minorities. 'You think The
Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a
single room?,' Dean asked to laughter. 'Only if they had the hotel staff
in here.'"

Press, 2/11/05)
This is a brilliant tactic. If the Democrats are going to have an extreme lefty as the head of their party, then all Democratic candidates should be forced to either break with their party or embrace the extremism. Either way it's an advantage for the Republicans and conservative democrats. I wonder if Kaine will respond.
