The Dark Lord Speaks about Guantanamo

Gitmo has been getting a lot of attention lately. Honestly I think the press just needs something else to blame America for. Afterall we are all cruel torturous oppressives who want to enslave everyone for their oil.

But what brought on this round of hyperbole is the Time Magazine article that talks about the torture of "the 20th hijacker". And well the article gets pretty much taken to the mat by James Lileks here.

Yesterday Dick Chaney got in to the fray when asked at a press conference if Gitmo was closing. Here's his reaction:
"'The stain of Guantanamo has become the primary recruiting tool for our enemies,' Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy (news, bio, voting record) said.

Cheney said it was his feeling that 'the track record there is on the whole pretty good, and that this is an essential part of our strategy of prevailing and winning in the ongoing war on terror.'

'Now, does this hurt us from the standpoint of international opinion? I, frankly, don't think so. And my own personal view of it is that those who are most urgently advocating that we shut down Guantanamo probably don't agree with our policies anyway,' Cheney said."
Translation: those people will whine about whatever we do regardless. They need to shut up and let the adults run the war.
