It's not enough to call the Emperor naked...

It is true that the President's new offensive against the Lying Liberals of the Left (LLL for short, this includes the news media and academia) has been very refreshing and has energized conservatives, there is a pitfall we must avoid. It's not enough to point out the hypocrisy of the LLL. It's not enough to say "you were wrong too". We can't let this battle be about who was less wrong. We cannot be seen to be abandoning our position. This can't be about Dems vs. Repubs. It's about presenting a united front to our enemies and providing united support for our troops. When the LLL calls Bush a liar and says he led us in to an illegal war, the bad part isn't that they are making Bush look bad. No, the bad part is that they seek to cast the global war on terror as illegitimate and immoral.

The LLL motivated by a desire to return to power, a genuine hatred of Bush, and an amoral worldview intrinsic to their beliefs have served to present a divided front to the terrorists. This not only emboldens terrorists but does a lot of their work for them. The whole "Bush lied, no WMD's, Haliburton war" whining has distracted from the FACT that we are the good guys. Michael Moore not withstanding, we are the ones fighting for freedom, democracy, and human rights.

So when we throw out the hypocrisy of the LLL, we not only have to point out that it's wrong to re-write history, but it's wrong to abandon the fight after a few unexpected setbacks. Yes the intelligence was wrong about WMD's. But that does not make Saddam less evil, or make the terrorists love us more, or make our cause any less noble and right. It's sad, but it has gotten to the point that we can't just say that the emperor is naked, we have to say "yes it is a good thing to wear clothes".

Dick Cheney does good job of it in his speech last night
What were hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and perniciousfalsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie.

The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone but were not going to sit by and let them rewrite history.

Were going to continue throwing their own words back at them. And far more important, were going to continue sending a consistent message to the men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts.

We can never say enough how much we appreciate them, and how proud they make us. They and their families can be certain: That this cause is right ... and the performance of our military has been brave and honorable ...and this nation will stand behind our fighting forces with pride and without wavering until the day of victory.
I love the last line in that speech. There's no political posturing there, the right thing to do is obvious and we are going to do it. No matter what the cost.

Tip of the fedora to Don Surber and PoliPundit.
