Ordinary Iraqis Wage a Successful Battle Against Insurgents

The general consensus in Iraq at this point is that the insurgency is dead. And the terrorists that you see on the news are more akin to criminals preying on innocent bystanders than a military resistance. The next time you see a headline stating 30 dead in insurgent attack be sure and read the whole article. More and more these days the majority of the people being killed in these attacks are the terrorists themselves. And now we have stories like this one from the New York Times.

Ordinary Iraqis Wage a Successful Battle Against Insurgents
: "As the gunmen emerged from their cars, Dhia and his young relatives shouldered their own AK-47's and opened fire, police and witnesses said. In the fierce gun battle that followed, three of the insurgents were killed, and the rest fled just after the police arrived. Two of Dhia's young nephews and a bystander were injured, the police said.

'We attacked them before they attacked us,' Dhia, 35, his face still contorted with rage and excitement, said in a brief exchange at his shop a few hours after the battle. He did not give his last name. 'We killed three of those who call themselves the mujahedeen. I am waiting for the rest of them to come and we will show them.'"
The Iraqi's are enjoying their freedom and are becoming more willing to stand up and fight for it. That is what will kill the resistance completely and lesson the burden on our troops.

Note:I wonder what gun control advocates would say about this story.
